Transforming Vehicle Efficiency with Solar Alternators
Harness solar power to reduce fuel costs and carbon footprint.
Solar Alternator: Innovative Solar Charging for Non-Refrigerated Vehicles
Efficiency and Sustainability for Non-Refrigerated Vehicles
Mobius Energy Technologies introduces the Solar Alternator, a groundbreaking solar battery charging unit designed to enhance the efficiency of non-refrigerated vehicles. This unit drastically reduces diesel consumption and emissions by intelligently managing the alternator load and using solar energy to maintain the vehicle’s lead-acid battery.
Key Features:
- Depot Efficiency: Allows vehicles to switch off entirely at depots, reducing noise and emissions while maintaining operational readiness through solar-powered electrical systems.
- Real-Time Insights: Provides real-time tracking of energy usage, battery health, and idling time via an interactive portal, offering actionable insights for fleet management.
- Customisable Options: Available in three configurations to meet diverse operational needs and budgets, ensuring a perfect fit for your fleet’s requirements.
- Reduced Maintenance: Provides Lead acid batteries charged which increases the life span of the Lead acid batteries.
With its robust design and versatile functionality, the Solar Alternator is an essential investment for fleets aiming to cut operational costs and enhance sustainability. Download the full product spec sheet for more detailed information.
Operational Mechanics of the Solar Alternator
2 or 3 solar PV panels are installed on the roof of the vehicle to produce solar energy. This solar energy is converted and stored in a small Lithium Battery. The Lithium battery then charges the vehicles lead acid battery. The vehicles normal alternator acts as a back up if there is no solar energy.

Approximately 87% of energy is lost when converting diesel to electrical energy. The Solar Alternator eliminates the need for diesel to produce battery energy.

Direct Benefits to Your Fleet
Saves between R10 000 and R35 000 in diesel costs annually (depending on vehicle size and operating hours, idling hours). The expected payback is less than 2 years. The solar alternator eliminates the load on the alternator which saves 2%-3% of vehicle consumption. Vehicles idling can also be eliminated, saving up to R25 000 per annum (based on 60 minutes of idling per day at 3,5 litres per hour).
Additional benefits:
- Qualify for a 125% capital tax deduction in the 1st year (section 12B of SARS income tax).
- Eliminate hidden costs associated with jump-starting vehicles.
- Extend battery life by 200%.
- Extend alternator life as its only activated as a back up.
